Completing a course confirms what someone knows. It does not confirm how they will perform when a situation becomes difficult, unfamiliar or time-sensitive.
For safety-critical roles, that gap matters. The decisions that determine whether someone performs safely often depend on non-technical skills — how they notice and interpret information, how they communicate, how they challenge, and how they respond when circumstances are not straightforward. These capabilities are hard to develop and assess through conventional e-learning and knowledge testing alone.
Human Focus AI Rehearsal & Role Play gives people the opportunity to practise realistic workplace situations in their own words, with an AI that responds to what they say. It develops and assesses the cognitive and behavioural skills that sit alongside procedural knowledge — and does so consistently, at scale, as part of the e-learning experience.
A correctly answered multiple-choice question shows that someone can recall information. It does not show whether they can apply it under pressure.
For many roles, what matters most is not whether someone remembers the procedure. It is whether they can notice that something is wrong, interpret what it means, communicate effectively, make sound decisions and respond appropriately — even when a situation is developing, ambiguous or dependent on incomplete information.
These are the skills that experienced workers build over years. They are also the skills that are hardest to develop through instruction alone, and hardest to measure through conventional assessments. Human Focus AI Role Play makes them trainable and assessable within the e-learning experience.
Human Focus AI Role Play provides two forms of simulation-based practice, each targeting different aspects of performance.
The learner enters a conversation with an AI character that has its own role, background and knowledge. They decide what to ask, how to respond and how to manage the exchange — in their own words, not by selecting from predetermined options. The AI responds dynamically based on what the learner says, so each interaction reflects the choices made.
Typical scenarios include conducting an accident investigation interview, challenging unsafe behaviour, speaking with a witness during a site inspection, holding a difficult supervisory conversation, or checking whether someone is ready to undertake a task.
AI Rehearsal focuses on decision-making in developing situations. The AI presents a realistic workplace scenario and asks the learner what they notice, what it means and what they would do. As the learner responds, the situation can evolve — new information may emerge, conditions may change and assumptions may be challenged. The learner must reassess continuously and decide what to do next.
Both AI Role Play and AI Rehearsal are built into the e-learning experience — learners encounter them as part of a course, not as a separate tool or standalone assessment.
At the end of each AI Role Play or AI Rehearsal, learners receive structured feedback through two options.
Learners can review their full interaction and reflect on how they handled each exchange — seeing both their own responses and the AI character’s replies in sequence.
View Report provides an overall performance grade and a breakdown covering areas such as communication, decision-making and how effectively the scenario was handled. It includes competency scores, specific recognition of what was handled well, and targeted coaching guidance on where performance could improve.
Because the assessment and feedback are generated automatically, Human Focus AI Role Play delivers consistent, detailed coaching across a workforce without requiring additional facilitator time for each learner.
Human Focus is integrating AI Role Play into its off-the-shelf course library. Learners taking existing courses will encounter simulation-based practice as part of the e-learning experience — an opportunity to apply what they have learned in a realistic situation before they encounter it in the workplace.
For organisations already using Human Focus, this extends the value of existing training without additional configuration. AI Role Play will be highlighted on course pages as it becomes available across the library.
Go beyond course completion rates. AI Role Play gives visibility into how people actually handle the situations that matter, and provides automated coaching to help them improve.
Deliver consistent, scalable practice and assessment of non-technical skills without increasing delivery costs. Simulation and feedback are built into the e-learning experience.
Give employees the opportunity to practise difficult, unusual or high-stakes situations in a safe environment before they encounter them for real. For roles where performance under pressure matters, AI Role Play provides structured, repeatable experience.
AI Role Play is being added to the off-the-shelf course library and is available through the Human Focus Content Builder for organisations wanting to develop bespoke scenarios. It extends the Human Focus platform without replacing existing training.
