Why Is IATP Asbestos Awareness Important?
Asbestos causes over 5,000 deaths each year, according to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). In 2022, there were 2,257 deaths from mesothelioma in the UK, a slight decrease from the previous year. Additionally, there were 493 reported deaths from asbestosis, also fewer than in 2021.
To reduce the risk of asbestos exposure, the Control of Asbestos Regulation 2012 requires anyone likely to be exposed to or disturb asbestos at work to undertake asbestos training.
Employers and their staff must be able to identify asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) and have practical measures in place to protect themselves and others. IATP asbestos training is ideal for training, equipping and educating staff to stay safe around asbestos.
