Why is This Course Important?
Improper manual handling is a leading cause of non-fatal injuries. In 2022/23, 17% of work-related injuries in the UK were due to improper handling, lifting and carrying of objects. During the same period, there were 473,000 reported cases of work-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs).
Industrial workers often handle heavy loads and perform repetitive lifting tasks. If these high-risk activities are not performed correctly, they can result in severe strains, sprains and chronic MSDs. Workers who suffer these injuries often need long recovery periods and can seek compensation if their employers failed to provide training or sufficiently control manual handling risks.
This course addresses these problems by providing users with the knowledge and skills to handle loads safely in industrial settings. It covers critical topics such as manual handling assessments and proper lifting techniques so workers can minimise injury risks.
Are You Aware of Your Responsibilities?
Employers have a legal responsibility to risk assess work activities and ensure the safety of their employees. If employees are at risk of manual handling injuries, controls must be put in place to reduce risks to a reasonably practicable level. One of these controls must be adequate training.
These responsibilities are reinforced by the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 and the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992.
This course supports employers in meeting their legal obligations by equipping employees with the necessary knowledge and skills to perform manual handling tasks safely and compliantly.
About This Course
