This training course is for all staff members that use or manage those that use chemicals or hazardous substances as part of their work activities.
The purpose of this course is to provide a thorough understanding of preventive measures to control the health and safety risks associated with hazardous substances, while ensuring compliance with the COSHH regulations.
Working with hazardous substances can lead to injury and ill health, which can be lengthy or even fatal. There are some 13,000 deaths annually due to past exposures to hazardous substances, according to recent data. Alongside this, there are many more cases of non-fatal incidents which lead to much pain and suffering.
Depending on the substance you are using, it can potentially get into your body in a number of ways. Through cuts or punctures inoculation, ingestion, by absorption through the skin or eyes or by inhalation, hazardous substances can have a number of different effects. Some are local, directly at the point of contact, and usually you’d be in no doubt about the effects. This might include occupational irritant contact dermatitis or burns to the skin or eyes.
