About Fire Door Inspection Training

Fire doors must be inspected regularly to ensure they are adequately maintained. Anyone who wants to inspect and certify fire doors must be competent. This means they have suitable skills, knowledge and training to do the job.

Fire Door Inspection

Our Fire Door Inspection course covers theory only and awards trainees with a RoSPA-assured certificate that proves an in-depth understanding of fire door inspections. The certificate doesn’t demonstrate your ability to apply your knowledge, however.

Fire Door Inspection – Competency Development

Our Fire Door Inspection – Competency Development course combines theory and skills progression in one programme. Trainees complete all Fire Door Inspection modules before applying their knowledge in a series of practical assessments marked by a fire safety expert. Passing all assessments awards trainees a RoSPA-assured certificate as well as an additional Competency Development Qualification verified by an independent fire safety expert and certified by CPD. This level of qualification proves your competency to inspect fire doors at an approved standard.

Why is Fire Door Inspection Training Important?

Fire doors are a critical part of every building’s fire safety. They provide passive fire protection in an emergency and limit the spread of smoke and flames, creating safe evacuation and access routes.

Despite their importance, fire doors are routinely neglected by fire safety duty holders. A survey conducted by the Fire Door Inspection Scheme found that 75% of fire doors failed their inspections, meaning they would be unable to function properly in a fire emergency.

Evidence such as this highlights why inspections are vital. Faults can occur at every stage of a fire door’s lifecycle – from manufacture to installation – and these faults are easily overlooked during ‘tick box’ inspections or those carried out by untrained individuals.

Having a fire door in place is not enough to protect people and property. Regular inspection by competent individuals is essential to make sure it will work in an emergency.

  3. An independent fire safety expert reviews your practical assessments and provides feedback.
  4. Once you’ve built sufficient evidence of your practical work, the fire safety expert will sign off on your skills and you’ll receive your Competency Development Qualification.
