New Online Course: Head Protection Awareness Training
We are pleased to introduce our latest online course: Head Protection Awareness Training
This IIRSM-approved course is designed to increase head protection wear rates and support compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, the Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1992 and, where relevant, the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
Trainees gain essential awareness of when head protection is required and how to use it safely. The course covers common head injury hazards, how to choose suitable protective equipment and key pre-use checks.
Providing this training helps workers use head protection correctly and more consistently, and shows that reasonable steps have been taken to ensure personal protective equipment (PPE) is used.
Why Is Head Protection Awareness Training Important?
Under the Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1992, employers must provide suitable head protection where there is a risk of injury, along with instruction and training on its use.
However, many workers still choose to go without head protection, despite the fact that it can prevent life-changing or potentially fatal injuries. Even workers who do wear protection aren’t necessarily safer if they choose the wrong type or fit it incorrectly.
In these situations, employers must ensure that workers both understand why head protection is essential and how to wear it properly.
This course directly supports these duties. It uses real-world examples of serious injuries to reinforce why protection is needed, and explains workers’ legal obligations to wear the PPE provided.
It also outlines how to select, fit and care for head protection. Learners will recognise different types of headgear, know how to choose the right one for the task, and understand how to adjust it for a safe, comfortable fit. Simple maintenance tips are also included to help extend the lifespan of issued equipment.
