New Online Course: Introduction to ISO 14001

We are pleased to introduce our fully online course: Introduction to ISO 14001 Training. This online course is designed to help organisations build a shared understanding of ISO 14001:2015 across their teams — essential for achieving, maintaining or improving an effective Environmental Management System (EMS).

This IIRSM-approved training covers the full ISO 14001:2015 framework across three modules. It introduces the standard’s 10-clause structure and works through all seven auditable clauses within the Plan–Do–Check–Act (PDCA) cycle in detail, including how environmental aspects, compliance obligations and improvement actions connect to day-to-day work.

The course also gives environmental managers, compliance leads and ISO champions a consistent, repeatable way to evidence that staff understand the standard behind the system they work within.

Why Is Introduction to ISO 14001 Training Important?

During certification or surveillance audits, employees may be asked directly how their work connects to the EMS. If they cannot answer clearly — linking their role to environmental aspects, compliance obligations or improvement actions — the organisation has a documented awareness gap. Procedural documents and site inductions do not close it.

The standard is also changing. ISO has already introduced explicit climate-change considerations into management system standards, including ISO 14001:2015, and a deeper revision in 2026 will extend those requirements further. Organisations need to embed climate-related issues into EMS planning now, and the workforce needs to understand why that matters.

UK legislation reinforces the broader obligation. The Environmental Protection Act 1990 sets out duties for the safe handling, storage and disposal of waste. The Waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2011 require organisations to reduce landfill waste and maintain records of waste handling. ISO 14001 provides the structured framework to demonstrate compliance with both.

For organisations working towards or maintaining ISO 14001 certification, this training offers:

  • A clear record of staff awareness under Clause 7.3, ready for internal reviews and surveillance audits
  • Employees prepared to answer audit questions about how their work connects to the EMS
  • Consistent understanding of environmental aspects, operational controls and improvement actions across teams
  • A documented and repeatable way for environmental managers and ISO champions to build baseline knowledge
  • Training evidence that can be presented alongside the organisation’s environmental management documentation
