IOSH Safety, Health & Environment for Construction Site Managers
The IOSH SHE for Construction Site Managers online course is designed for construction site managers working in the UK or overseas. The course provides the practical health and safety information and legal guidance that site managers need.
The course provides a step-by-step guide that is vital for site managers to understand their role and responsibilities when it comes to managing construction site hazards. It gives an overview of health and safety management fundamentals and explores common site hazards and their controls.
Completion of the Safety, Health, and the Environment for Construction Site Managers course ensures site managers are on the same page when it comes to health and safety. It provides them with the knowledge and tools to prevent accidents and ill health from occurring. It also demonstrates compliance.
The construction sector has a statistically poor health and safety record. The rate of fatality in the industry is almost four times that across other injuries. At the same time, some 81,000 suffer from work-related ill health in construction, while there are 61,000 non-fatal injuries per year, according to the Health and Safety Executive.
Any organisation operating in the construction sector has a moral responsibility to do its part to prevent construction site accidents and ill health from occurring. Along with this, comes a legal and financial obligation to do so. Failure to properly manage the hazards on a construction site can result in serious fines and imprisonment, as well as irreparable damage to a company.
According to the law, employers must:
- Demonstrate they are doing their part to protect the health and safety of their workforce
- Take steps to reduce their environmental impact of their operations
- Guarantee that there is an effective company procedure for health and safety and that all employees, subcontractors, and workers are made aware of their duties
- Protect the construction workers who have a right to work safely without getting hurt
- Consult their workers on any health and safety matters that affect their performance
- Provide proper training to the construction workers to avoid any hazard to occur

- Mechanical
- Physical
- Chemical
- Environmental
- Biological
- Organisational
