Display Screen Equipment (DSE) is a recognised workplace health hazard if not used or set up correctly. Poorly designed workstations, prolonged screen use or extended periods of sitting can all cause health problems, including:
- Back pain
- Neck pain
- Eye strain
- Repetitive strain injury
- Musculoskeletal disorders (injuries of the muscles, nerves, tendons, joints or spinal discs)
Any employee that uses DSE – including laptops, monitors or other screens – for at least an hour a day must be given training on its safe use.
You can use this infographic as a reference for the proper sitting position, desk set-up and posture to protect you and your staff from the risks of unsafe DSE work.
