This IIRSM-approved course gives scaffolders essential awareness of the equipment, methods and systems used to prevent falls.
The course explains the hierarchy of fall protection controls and when each is considered effective. This includes collective protection methods such as safe platforms and guardrails, as well as personal fall protection equipment like harnesses and lanyards. It also provides an overview of duties under the Work at Height Regulations 2005 for scaffolders and employers.
By the end of the course, trainees will understand how to reduce risks with fall protection, supporting compliance and safety on-site.
Explains what fall protection is, the different types used during scaffolding work and why some are preferred over others.
Introduces safety systems that protect multiple workers simultaneously, such as guardrails, toeboards and temporary edge protection.
Explains why safe access and egress are essential and how these might work in different scenarios.
Covers the proper use of personal fall protection equipment (PFPE) and how to identify and use suitable anchor points.
Describes essential PFPE checks and considerations for keeping equipment in working condition. Also highlights the importance of detailed PFPE inspections.
Introduces the key elements of rescue planning, including the required equipment and training for on-site emergencies.
Summarises what both employers and scaffolders must do to prevent falls under the Work at Height 2005 Regulations.

Why Is Fall Protection Training for Scaffolders Important?
Falls from height remain the most common work-related fatal injury in the UK. Because of this risk, anyone working at height must be competent to do so safely. Under the Work at Height Regulations, employers are required to provide employees with the necessary instruction and training.
This IIRSM-approved Fall Protection Training helps meet this duty. It provides awareness of the equipment and practices used to reduce risks at height, including recommendations from Preventing Falls in Scaffolding by the National Access and Scaffolding Confederation (NASC).
The course covers the complete hierarchy of control measures, so trainees understand preferred risk-reduction methods for different work scenarios. This includes both collective protections, such as fully boarded platforms, edge protection and ladder access systems, as well as personal fall protection equipment (PFPE).
PFPE is then explored in more depth, with guidance on identifying suitable anchor points, conducting essential pre-use checks and storing equipment to prevent faults. It also looks at key considerations for rescues and emergency planning.
After completing the course, scaffolders will be better equipped to prevent falls and work to NASC standards. This supports safety on-site and compliance with the Work at Height Regulations.
