Mental Health Awareness Week | by Ian Pemberton

As you may be aware it is mental health awareness week

This is particularly timely as we are in the middle of a pandemic that appears to be creating a significant mental health problem

The director general of the world health organisation has this week highlighted this concern stating:

“The impact of the pandemic on people’s mental health is already extremely concerning. Social isolation, fear of contagion, and loss of family members is compounded by the distress caused by loss of income and often employment,

It is now crystal clear that mental health needs must be treated as a core element of our response to and recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic”

Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of WHO.

Research shows that a number of people are at increased risk.  For example, parents,  particularly those who are juggling home-schooling, working from home and household tasks, older persons and people with pre-existing mental health conditions are among other groups at particular risk.

It’s vitally important that employers look to put in place ways to reach out to all workers at this difficult time to help raise awareness and support good mental health

I would urge you therefore to take a look at the human focus online mental health awareness course which is designed specifically to assist with this issue.

You can look at this completely free of charge.  If you feel it is helpful it is a low-cost way of supporting your workforce we are offering a significant discount as our way of supporting mental health awareness week.
